Born in Whalley, Lancashire, I spent my formative years growing up in the Ribble Valley and what is now South Cumbria. Nature and landscape formed a major part of my life. At an early age I became a member of the Young Ornithologist Club, part of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. Leighton Moss was my local reserve which I visited as often as possible, thanks to my parents. I remember vividly the moment that triggered my interest in the natural world… it was seeing a Spoonbill feeding with that amazing bill! Now, I reside in North West Cumbria. I am very fortunate to live in this beautiful corner of the world, and am ideally placed to photograph the wonderful landscape. Cumbrian wildlife too is superb, with a diverse range of habitats, from uplands, forests, marshes, lakes and rivers to seashore and sea. This diversity is essential to continue to support the variety of wildlife found here, and its thanks to the many organisations involved in preserving and restoring these habitats, that we can enjoy many of them today. Links to some of these organisations can be found on my ‘links page’ along with more of my favourite useful and informative web sites.
